Workshop: Teaching about Genocides in School
French / Open to all, particularly students and teachers (high school and cegep) / Free / Registration required
Description : The debate in Canada about whether residential schools were part of what can be called a genocide of First Peoples demonstrates not only the importance of clarifying the concept of genocide but also of better understanding the genocidal process in all its complexity, which often extends over a long period of time. The pedagogical approach to teaching about genocides that we propose focuses on issues of racism, justice, and prevention in order to get students to develop the skills necessary to respond to these controversies in an informed and argumentative manner and to reflect on the role they can play to prevent them.
