Conference and Film Screenings: Workshop to Raise Awareness of Indigenous Realities
French / Open to all / Free
Description: Cultural mediation workshops allow a diverse clientele to learn, understand and appreciate indigineous cultures from Quebec and Canada, through a selection of high quality contemporary audiovisual work. This year, these workshops are offered thanks to the support of the City of Montreal. The ambassador of the workshop will first start with a brief description of their journey, their own nation and the Wapikoni mission. The workshop will continue with a description of different indigenous technologies (Aboriginal, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit), followed by a brief overview of indigeonous populations by province and territory. The participants will then be invited to discover short films produced by Wapikoni and directed by indigenous filmmakers from across the country, giving their personal vision and the one from their community about various aboriginal subjects and issues integrating traditions and modernity. At the end, the participants will be able to comment and discuss the film and the topics covered. These workshops are therefore highly dynamic and participatory and use different digital technologies.
